Progressieve Conservatieve Partij van Sveland

The Progressive Conservative Party of Sveland is a political party in the Kingdom of Sveland. The party advocated for liberal economic policies, progressive conservatism, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and was described by the Electoral Authority of Sveland as having a stauch position against Zionism, and supporting the Palestinians.

History

Origins and Foundation

The Progressive Conservative Party of Sveland (PCPS) was established in December 2025 in the city of Doetinlingen. The party was formed by a splinter group of moderates from the current right-wing establishment parties in parliament who felt that the right-wing political landscape in Sveland had become too rigid on social issues, especially The Republican Party. The founding members sought to combine fiscal responsibility with social progressivism, creating a distinct “centre-right” niche that advocated for LGBTQ+ rights within a framework of traditional national values.

Early Development

In its infancy, the party struggled to gain traction in a highly polarized political environment. However, the PCPS distinguished itself early on by taking a strong, unambiguous stance on international human rights. Under the leadership of Matthijs Pol, the party became one of the first non-leftist entities in Sveland to formally adopt a staunchly anti-Zionist platform, advocating for the recognition of Palestinian statehood and condemning the occupation. This move, while controversial among some conservative circles, helped the party carve out a unique identity.

Ideology and Policies

Economic Liberalism

Economically, the PCPS advocates for free-market principles, deregulation, and lower corporate taxes to stimulate growth within Sveland. They believe that a robust private sector is the best way to fund social programs and maintain the Kingdom's welfare state without excessive government borrowing.

Progressive Conservatism

Socially, the party promotes the idea of “compassionate conservatism.” They argue that societal institutions should evolve to reflect modern realities. Consequently, the PCPS is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, supporting marriage equality and anti-discrimination laws, arguing that such rights are compatible with-and indeed strengthen-the social fabric of the nation.

Foreign Policy

A defining feature of the PCPS is its foreign policy platform. The party is strictly anti-Zionist, frequently citing humanitarian concerns in its critique of policies regarding the Palestinian territories, and has accused Israel of “committing an atrocious genocide since 1948”. The party argues that Sveland’s foreign relations should be grounded in international law and human rights, even if it means diverging from traditional Western allies on specific issues. The party had supported the policies of Popular Union and the rest of the Left Front on heavily restricting Israeli individuals entering the country, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused it of “antisemitism” and said “it is wild a party that could have been from our side become traitors”.

Electoral History

Despite its active campaigning, the PCPS has yet to secure a seat in either the National Assembly or the Senate. Political analysts attribute this to the dominance of larger, established parties and the first-past-the-post electoral mechanics in certain districts. However, the party maintains a dedicated, if small, membership base estimated at around 200 active members, with its student wing, “Forward Conservatives Students,” seeing particular growth in university cities.
